After your birth, we want to support the whole family through the adjustment of welcoming their new baby. Midwives can provide postpartum care for the mother up to 8 weeks. We will see you in your home within 48 hours of your birth, 1-2 weeks, and 6-8 weeks postpartum. Additional visits can be arranged for extra support and educational purposes. 

 

Maternal postpartum visits will include:

• Assessment of physical recovery  

• Breastfeeding encouragement, advice, and support 

• Monitoring of emotional well-being 

• Processing and discussing your birth experience with you 

• Family planning counseling 

• Routine laboratory and pap tests, as needed

Midwives can provide newborn care up to 8 weeks following the birth. We will come to your home within 48 hours of the birth, 1-2 weeks, and 6-8 weeks postpartum. We recommend continued care be followed by a pediatrician.

Newborn visits will include:

• Breastfeeding support and proper latch technique 

• Continued monitoring of vitals, weight loss/gain, and jaundice 

• Assessment of tongue and lip ties and referrals as needed 

• Newborn metabolic screening within 48 hours

• Newborn Hearing screen

• Critical Congenital Heart Defect (CCHD) screening performed with a pulse oximeter
